FAQ

Got questions? We've got answers.

Everything students, parents and mentors usually ask before joining a bootcamp.

What is Origin Student Founders?

Origin Student Founders is a student-run incubator specifically designed for immigrant high school students. We run the Origin Challenge, a 4-day program across 2 weekends where students identify problems, design prototypes, and pitch their solutions to mentors and judges who understand the immigrant experience.

Who can apply to Origin Challenge?

Origin Challenge is open to all high school students (grades 9–12) who identify with the immigrant experience. This includes first-generation Americans, recent immigrants, and students from immigrant families. No coding experience is required, and the program is completely free.

Do I need coding experience?

Not at all! We'll teach you how to use design tools and create prototypes. Many successful participants had no prior experience. The focus is on problem-solving and creativity, not technical skills.

How much does it cost?

Origin Challenge is completely free! There are no hidden fees, no costs for materials, and no charges for mentorship. We believe that financial barriers shouldn't prevent talented students from exploring entrepreneurship.

What if I don't have a startup idea?

That's perfectly fine! Many students develop their ideas during the program. We'll help you identify problems in your community and guide you through turning those problems into viable solutions.

What happens during the 4 days?

Day 1: Ideation (problem + solution). Day 2: Finance + marketing plan. Day 3: Making the pitch + getting ready. Day 4: The pitch competition, where the top 10 students (selected by the Origin Student Founders team) present to mentors and judges. Each day includes workshops, mentorship sessions and hands-on building time. Work individually or in a group of two — your choice!

Who are the mentors?

Our mentors are successful immigrant founders, industry leaders and entrepreneurs who understand your journey. They have experience building companies, raising funding, and navigating the startup world as immigrants. Meet them here.

What if I can't attend all 4 days?

We strongly encourage full participation, as each day builds on the previous one. If you have unavoidable conflicts, mention them in your application and we'll work with you to find a solution.

What do I need to bring?

Just bring yourself, a laptop if you have one (we can provide one if needed), and an open mind! We provide all materials, software access, and meals.

How do I apply?

Applications open a few times a year. Join the list and we'll email you the moment the next one opens. The form takes about 10 minutes, and we review on a rolling basis.

What happens after the program?

You'll leave with a prototype, a pitch deck, new skills, and a network of mentors and peers. Many participants keep building their ideas, and everyone keeps access to Genesis and the community.
